I'll take mine a little dirty
The Dry or Dirty Martini came up…well it always comes up for me because that’s how I like my Martinis. I always order a Vodka Martini, Up, a little Dirty with everything (an olive, onion and a twist, I like a salad in mine…no CHERRY).
What makes the Martini “Dirty” is a little bit of olive juice (or brine) which clouds up. I love the little bit of salty taste and in general love olives. So next time you order a Martini try it a little dirty and see how you feel.
Dirty Vodka Martini
2 ounces of vodka
1 tablespoon dry vermouth
1 tablespoon olive brine
Three olives
Gently stir everything but the olives in a shaker full of ice. Strain into a martini glass, garnish with the olives and serve.

If you have a sweet tooth (a very big sweet tooth) or maybe you’re just adventurous on the cocktail side (and we know that WE ARE), you should try Skittles infused Vodka. Chef Ed talks about Vodka Sauce
Chef Ed of One Block West, a restaurant in Winchester, Virgina made a post this morning on their blog, One Blog West and he talks about cooking with Vodka. He suggests you macerate, which in food terms means “to soak a food in a liquid in order to infuse it with the liquid’s flavor) with the Vodka before adding it to the sauce to make a spicy red pepper extract. After doing that…I would put a little aside for a spicy Bloody Mary! Chef Ed also says that the Vodka enhances the flavor of the tomatoes. So make sure you get some tasty tomatoes.
You either have to stop by Chef Ed’s restaurant, One Block West or try one on your own at home.
Here are a couple to check out. Seems like most are for over Penne Pasta but I can imagine a lovely Vodka sauce over anything from fish to chicken. Let us know if you have a great Vodka sauce recipe.

Vodka good for musty clothes
If you can spare a sip from your Cosmo…Janie Bryant, the costume designer for Mad Men recently telling Valet Magazine that spritzing a mixture of 1 part vodka and 2 parts water onto vintage clothing helps to get the musty smell out. After doing a little research of our own we learned it’s because Vodka kills odor causing bacteria and mold. Then mix yourself a cocktail with the leftovers (called upcycling) and voila, your outfit is smelling better by the minute. Pretty neat.

Hangover Cures
These are my recommendations for the “Day After”:
1) Best remedy is the “Hair of the Dog” and go for a nice tangy Bloody Mary, a huge juicy hamburger burger, preferably at a restaurant with a beautiful view. Wear sunglasses so when you have those “OMG, I can’t believe I did that” flashbacks it’s less noticeable.
2) Go home, watch a good movie on DVD – anything with Jason Statham always makes me feel better.
3) Take two whatever PM painreliever and take a little nap.
4) Go to the gym and burn whatever alcohol is left out of your system.
5) Call the girls and see if they want to meet for cocktails.
Bloody Mary
Add Vodka, tomato juice, red hot sauce, green hot sauce, worchester sauce, lemon juice, pinch of salt, pinch of pepper.
Pour back and forth between two mixing glasses.
Strain into an ice-filled highball glass.
Garnish with celery stalk.
